 USB
Universal Serial Bus (USB) is a serial bus standard to interface devices. USB was designed to allow many peripherals to be connected using a single standardized interface socket and to improve the plug-and-play capabilities. Other convenient features include providing power to low-consumption devices without the need for an external power supply.

Current versions:
USB 1.0/1.1
Data rates of 1.5 Mbit/s (Low-Speed) and 12 Mbit/s (Full-Speed)

USB 2.0
Higher maximum speed of 480 Mbit/s (now called Hi-Speed).
Backward-compatible with USB 1.0/1.1 devices.

USB 3.0 (TBA)
USB 3.0 is targeted at roughly 4.8 Gbit/s (Superspeed).
Backwards-compatible with USB 2.0 and USB 1.1
